House Numbers

Visitors to Little Driffield are often confused by the house numbering system. When the numbers were first allocated, starting at the Driffield end of the Main Street (York Road) the even numbers were on the southern side of the road and the odd numbers were on the northern side including the side roads. A typical address would be 10 Little Driffield. Later, probably when post codes were introduced, the street names were included in the addresses giving rise to the anomily of roads with non consecutive numbers. For example Church Lane has 20,22,24 and 26 still in use. In the past I have had delivery drivers asking me where 3 Church Lane is; when they want Church Lane, Driffield. So much for satnav!

The map has still a few details to add. I will update it as soon as I can.
